Wiring up the meals panel

First proper pass at the meals panel today. The idea is simple: the dashboard should always be able to answer “what’s for dinner tonight?” without anyone opening an app or asking.

I started by pulling the week’s planned meals from a shared note, then surfacing just tonight’s at the top, with the rest of the week underneath in smaller type.

What worked

Showing only tonight by default. The week is there if you want it, but the calm version — one meal, big and clear — is what actually gets used at 6pm.

Still to do

Pulling in a little “needs defrosting” nudge in the morning, so nobody discovers the chicken is a brick at dinnertime.

Why I'm building this

Every morning starts with the same three questions: what’s the plan today, who needs to be where, and is there anything we’ve forgotten. We answer them in scattered places — a calendar here, a note there, a vague memory of a conversation.

MorningMemo is an attempt to put the answers in one calm place: a single screen by the kettle that quietly knows the shape of the day.

Four panels to start: dashboard (the day at a glance), meals, whereabouts, and money. This is the napkin sketch. Let’s see how much survives contact with reality.
